Pie Town, New Mexico

Pie Town is about a 3-hour drive southwest of Albuquerque via Socorro. It is so named because one of its original businesses was a restaurant specializing in pies. Today there are a few restaurants there, and all of them specialize in pie. There are some unusual pies too, such as apple with green chile and pinon nuts. We photographed the town in the spring and again at its annual festival the second week of September.

On the outskirts of town, there is a windmill museum.

Scenes from the annual September festival:

There is a pie contest.

And a pie-eating contest!
And a horse-shoe tossing contest

There are many other events as well, a craft fair, and live music.

And, of  course, pie!
