Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, near Socorro, south of Albuquerque

Located just south of Socorro, Bosque del Apache is the best-known wildlife refuge in the state. It is a haven for birders and has a wide variety of birds to see all year long; however, winter is a wonderful time to visit because the sandhill cranes and snow geese are plentiful, as are photographers.
