El Morro National Monument (Inscription Rock), two hours southwest of Albuquerque

Inscription Rock is located on Highway 53 west of Grants, New Mexico. A huge sandstone rock with a natural pool of water at its base attracted travelers for centuries in the past. As people traveled through, they often carved their names on the face of the rock, making a historical record, and thus the name, “Inscription Rock.”

In addition, on its mesa top there are the remains of an ancient pueblo. We thought this portion had even better photographic opportunities.
